Stop Asking Questions About the Chiefs After a Loss

Can we please stop overreacting whenever the Chiefs lose a football game? Especially when they lose to a team like the Bills where Kansas City was up with a little under two minutes left and only allowed 24 points to a Josh Allen-led offense.

The Chiefs and this offense had questions being asked once again about why they lost to the Bills, and that the departure of Tyreek Hill is the reason the Chiefs don’t scare anyone. Stop it. Kansas City has the top-scoring offense in the NFL, averaging 31.9 points per game with receivers that many people call below average in Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, and Skyy Moore. Not saying that any of these wideouts are world-beaters, but if people are going to say that the receiving core is underwhelming, then stop saying Patrick Mahomes depended on Hill.

Through seven games, Mahomes has 2,159 passing yards, 20 touchdowns to five interceptions, a 66.9 completion percentage, and a 109.5 QBR. You do not need alpha receivers in an offense with a quarterback like Mahomes. What you need is receivers that do their jobs, and Mahomes will elevate them.

Nonetheless, the Chiefs blew out the 49ers in a 44-23 win against arguably the best defense in the league. Mahomes was sacked once and completed 25 of 34 passes for 423 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Kansas City had its way with San Francisco, and after falling behind 10-0, the Chiefs did exactly what they did in the Super Bowl, but this time it was far more convincing.

The Chiefs erased the deficit by midway through the second quarter and should have been up by at least four heading into the half. The Chiefs are just fine and may have an even better offense without Hill because Mahomes can spread the ball out to so many weapons, keeping defenses on their toes.

Smith-Schuster had his second great game in consecutive weeks with seven catches for 124 yards and one touchdown. Valdes-Scantling collected 111 yards on three catches, while Travis Kelce caught six passes for 98 yards.

The passing attack for the Chiefs is very well-balanced, and there should be no more questions or concerns about why the Chiefs cannot continue their dominant play. Kansas heads into its bye week before hosting the Titans at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday Night Football in week nine.
