San Francisco 49ers (11-4) at Las Vegas Raiders (6-9)

Sunday, January 1, 4:05 PM ET

The San Francisco 49ers, despite some crazy circumstances, find themselves the hottest team in the NFL heading into January. That’s a great position to be in regardless of your QB situation.

The 49ers lost Trey Lance. They lost Jimmy Garoppolo. Then Brock Purdy had to play banged up. It hasn’t exactly been easy for Kyle Shanahan and his offense, but life’s pretty good when you have the NFL’s number one ranked scoring defense and pretty obviously the top defense overall in the NFL this coming season.

This Week 17 battle is a battle between two teams that used to rule the Bay Area, but the Raiders have now relocated to Las Vegas and their 2022 season has been a crapshoot, to say the least.

One week, the Raiders are walking off on the Seahawks with an 86-yard run by Josh Jacobs. Another week, they’re blowing a fourth-quarter lead to the Cardinals or someone else. This past week, they dropped a must-win game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, another AFC team battling for its playoff life at this point.

The Raiders are a tough team to figure out for NFL picks but this game seems pretty straightforward doesn’t it?

The 49ers are one of the best teams in the NFL right now and they’re not even letting games stay close. They are blowing teams out. With changes on the near horizon for the Raiders, potentially moving on from Derek Carr (actually this time), could this be another week full of disappointment for Raider Nation?

I think it’s set up to be that way.

The 49ers have scored 33 or more points in four of their last six games. They haven’t allowed more than 20 points since October.

Prediction: 49ers win 30-20
