As if New York Jets fans weren’t anxious enough about the Aaron Rodgers situation, how about we throw some ideas into the mix about teams swooping in and perhaps making a compelling offer to trade for the four-time MVP? Rodgers went on The Pat McAfee Show recently and declared that, after contemplating retirement, he wants to play for the New York Jets this coming season. Alright, that’s great. We know what Rodgers wants.

But nothing has happened.

No trade has been finalized. New York Jets fans can’t go out and buy their Aaron Rodgers no. 12 jerseys yet. What’s the holdup? If the Jets want Rodgers, why are they haggling so much over the price attached to getting him? Why haven’t they just traded whatever and done whatever to make this deal get done?

Could another team swoop in and steal Aaron Rodgers from the Jets?

There have been rumors lately that some other team should (or could) swoop in and steal Aaron Rodgers away from the New York Jets, his presumptive landing spot at this point. Are teams just trying to drive up the price so the Jets lose a first-round pick? Maybe, and it might work.

Ultimately, though, Rodgers is available and anything is possible until it’s not. Let’s look at three teams that should trade for the former four-time NFL MVP.

1. Miami Dolphins should trade for Aaron Rodgers

Let’s just admit for one second that Aaron Rodgers on the Miami Dolphins would be absolutely ridiculous. Rodgers has stated recently that he’s not going to San Francisco, but playing for Mike McDaniel would be a fun compromise, wouldn’t it?

Can you imagine those two personalities together?

Further, can you imagine Aaron Rodgers throwing passes to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and the rest of the cast of characters currently in Miami? I mean, it’s no Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson, but it will do.

The Dolphins put their money where their mouth is by investing in the fifth-round team option on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Nobody is saying the Dolphins are the most likely option for Aaron Rodgers but why not give it a shot? If the Packers are insistent on a first-round pick for Rodgers, the Dolphins would probably be one team you could count on to give up a future first to get him. This team has been more than open for business with trading first-round picks under GM Chris Grier.

2. New England Patriots should trade for Aaron Rodgers

It’s getting to the point lately that you can’t help but feel like the end is coming in the somewhat-near future for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick has been at this for such a long time. There have been some rumors of his retirement circulating in recent years and there’s no doubt that he’s cemented his legacy as a Hall of Fame NFL head coach, probably the greatest coach of all time.

It’s been reported recently that Mac Jones is not exactly on the good side of Belichick, so what if Belichick decided to give himself one more window with Rodgers under center as his quarterback after working for two decades with Tom Brady?

It’s an interesting thought, to say the least.

If Belichick doesn’t view Mac Jones as his future franchise QB, then anything should be on the table here. The Patriots wouldn’t have to trade Mac Jones to the Packers in exchange for Rodgers, but they could trade their first-round pick to get Rodgers and perhaps some conditional picks into the future as well.

Then, New England could recoup some assets in a Mac Jones trade after that.

Whatever the case, I think the Patriots would obviously be an infinitely better team with Rodgers running the show compared to Mac Jones. Bill O’Brien was just hired in the 2023 offseason to be the new offensive coordinator for the Patriots and there is plenty of smoke to these rumors that the Pats want to make a change at the QB position.

We’ll see what eventually winds up happening here, but I do not hate the idea of the Patriots swooping in and stealing Rodgers away from their division rivals in New York. The torture for Jets fans would reach a new level if that happened.

3. Tennessee Titans should trade for Aaron Rodgers

It seems, on the surface, like the Tennessee Titans are rebuilding. They have certainly made a lot of moves under new general manager Ran Carthon to indicate as much. The most recent rumor has the Titans apparently looking into moving up into that third overall pick spot where the Arizona Cardinals are currently slated to pick.

It looks like Carthon and Mike Vrabel might be more inclined to go after their QB of the future rather than bring in another veteran option at this point in time, but this is Aaron Rodgers we’re talking about. The Titans have been a surprise contender in the AFC for the last few years. As many great QBs as there are in that conference, the Titans have found their way into the mix for the majority of the last four years and Vrabel has established himself as a top-tier coach in the league.

It just so happens that Justin Outten, a former assistant on the Packers’ staff, is now on the Titans’ staff as well.

Again, it feels like the Titans are more inclined to go after a young quarterback right now, but Ran Carthon might be able to get Rodgers for multiple day two picks and perhaps still land his preferred QB of the future at some point. Why would the Titans make this move? Because this is a team that has been knocking on the door of being a title contender and Rodgers would push them over the top.

This isn’t the same Titans team that made it to the AFC Championship game a few years back. Again, there have been a lot of changes to this roster. But we’ve seen consistent winning from this team when Ryan Tannehill is healthy, so imagine what they could do with Rodgers in the mix.

With the backing of a strong Titans defense and the ability to hand the ball off to Derrick Henry, the Titans could be in business if they found a way to swoop in and land Aaron Rodgers.
