About one-fourth of the league has starting QBs who are 25 or younger. Let's power rank them for the 2025 NFL Season.
Age is just a number when it pertains to NFL quarterbacks - if they can play, they can play! However, Father Time is undefeated, but this young passers won't have to worry about that for a little while longer.
We could see quite a few teams starting young quarterbacks in 2025, and many of them will be 25 years old or younger. We tried to power rank those starting passers right here.
NFL Power Rankings: Ranking 25-and-under QBs for the 2025 season
Unranked - JJ McCarthy (22 years old), Cam Ward (23 years old), Tyler Shough (25 years old)
All of JJ McCarthy, Cam Ward, and Tyler Shough figure to be starting QBs on their respective teams for the 2025 NFL Season, but none of them have taken a snap in the NFL, so there isn't any use in assigning them a ranking. If you ask me, McCarthy has the best chance to emerge as a franchise QB in 2025, as the Vikings roster in offense is flat-out loaded, and both Ward and Shough are first-year QBs in shaky situations.
McCarthy is only set to enter into his age-22 season, so the Vikings might have really found something great here.
8. Michael Penix Jr (25 years old)
Getting some action near the end of the 2024 NFL Season, Michael Penix Jr is 'the guy' in Atlanta and does have enough around him to breakout in the 2025 NFL Season. Penix took over for Kirk Cousins, the veteran QB who honestly declined in real-time during the 2024 campaign.
With Cousins likely not getting traded, it presents a bit of an interesting situation in the Falcons QB room.
7. Drake Maye (22 years old)
Drake Maye played a lot better than the raw statistics might indicate he did, and with Josh McDaniels now running the show for the New England Patriots, Maye and the offense might be set to take a huge leap in 2025.
6. Caleb Williams (23 years old)
Caleb Williams is 23 years old and honestly has the entire city of Chicago at his fingertips. The Bears fanbase has been starved for franchise QB play for years, as they have never had a 4,000-yard passer and aren't exactly a great sports town at the moment.
In 2024, Williams tossed 20 touchdowns against just six interceptions, so he was efficient in that regard. The biggest issues for Williams to clean up for 2025 is being able to avoid sacks and get rid of the ball a bit quicker, which do go hand-in-hand. Ben Johnson is in the mix, so things should run a lot smoother on offense.
5. Trevor Lawrence (25 years old)
Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars just have not been able to find any stability over the first four years of his NFL career. Now already entering his fifth year, Lawrence is on his third head coach, but there is reason to be optimistic.
The Jags hired Liam Coen as their head coach, and Coen brings a sharp offensive mind with a run-centric mindset as well. In 2024, Coen was the Buccaneers offensive coordinator, and they sported one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL.
Trevor Lawrence has all the talent in the world, but at some point it falls on him to put it together. Will he and the Jags do that in 2025?
4. Brock Purdy (25 years old)
Brock Purdy signed a huge extension with the San Francisco 49ers. In his first three years in the NFL, Purdy has already started in a Super Bowl and was a part of another deep playoff run. Purdy might not be an elite QB, but he's quite good and is a proven winner.
The 49ers largely have to stay healthy, as they have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL this season. Brock Purdy could be in line for another efficient season through the air. He's ranked fourth in our 25-and-under QB power rankings.
3. CJ Stroud (23 years old)
CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans have taken ownership of the AFC South since 2023. They've got 10-7 in each of the last two seasons and have appeared in the Divisional Round in each year as well. The main issue, though, was the offensive line and offensive overall regressing a bit in 2024.
The Texans front office did overhaul the offensive line, as this is a very good roster with a capable QB. We'll see if CJ Stroud can rebound a bit, as he was on another planet during his rookie season, and he's still only 23 years old entering his third year in the NFL.
With the AFC South again seeming pretty weak, the Texans have another great shot at a division title, but can they do more with in during 2025?
2. Bo Nix (25 years old)
Bo Nix is 25 years old, and so many folks in the NFL landscape got Nix and the Denver Broncos very wrong in the 2024 NFL Season. Nix and Denver won 10 games and made the playoffs, somewhere they have not gone since the 2015 NFL Season when they won Super Bowl 50.
It's clear that Nix can do a little bit of everything, and his hidden athleticism ended up even surprising Sean Payton. Based on what Denver added this offseason, many have said that they can truly compete with the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC West title.
Bo Nix proved many people wrong in 2024 and will likely do so again in 2025.
1 Jayden Daniels (24 years old)
Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders won 14 total games in the 2024 NFL Season and are on track to become a juggernaut in 2025. Daniels may already be an elite QB and could be the closest thing we have to Lamar Jackson.
While it is logical to think that Washington can ascend a bit more in 2025, there is also reason that they can decline, as they went just about as far as a team can go, and sophomore slumps do happen in the NFL. For now, though Jayden Daniels is first in our 25-and-under QB power rankings for the 2025 season.
