Well, 2024 is upon us! Many of you will list some New Year's Resolutions you hope to accomplish in the new year. And you bet that every NFL team will do the same thing, too. Two of the biggest issues facing NFL teams on a broad level is QB play and offensive line play. Both are not great. And there are many teams that need to improve on one or both of these crucial aspects.
The NFL is filled with parity, and the 2023 NFL Season has shown a ton of that. I'd expect the 2024 NFL Season to feature a lot of what we've seen in 2023, and I think we'll see a ton of teams be hyper-aggressive in trying to improve on their rosters. Let's dive into one New Year's Resolution for each NFL team.
One New Year's Resolution for each NFL team in 2024
AFC North
Baltimore Ravens - Get Lamar Jackson even more weapons
Lamar Jackson seems to be in the driver's set for the NFL MVP award in 2023, and he doesn't exactly have the best of weapons. They're good, yes, but not great. I still think this offense can take another step by acquiring a true WR1 in 2024.
Cleveland Browns - Get a succession plan in place for Deshaun Watson
The Cleveland Browns have a huge QB issue on their hands. Their offense has looked much better with Joe Flacco in the lineup, and Watson just has not looked very good since arriving in Cleveland. The team needs to get a succession plan in place for Watson.
Cincinnati Bengals - Keep bolstering the offensive line
The Bengals offensive line still isn't that good, and they'll likely have a hole at right tackle to fill in 2024, as I do not think this team is going to re-sign Jonah Williams. The OL is still a huge need for this team.
Pittsburgh Steelers - Acquire a franchise QB no matter what it takes
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be an unserious, irrelevant team until they get a franchise QB in the building. Sorry Yinzers, Kenny Pickett is no good.
AFC South
Jacksonville Jaguars - Get more juice with the pass rush
Locking up stud pass rusher Josh Allen long-term would be a great start, but this defense simply needs more juice from their pass rush. I think the offense is going to be just fine, but the defense is definitely something to look at in 2024.
Houston Texans - Maximize rookie contract window with CJ Stroud
I think the Houston Texans can be a legitimate contender in 2024 if they have another strong offseason, and they'll have a handful more seasons of a QB on a rookie contract. CJ Stroud is legit, and they need to take advantage of that in 2024.
Indianapolis Colts - Get confirmation on Anthony Richardson
The Indianapolis Colts are 9-7 and in a playoff spot with Gardner Minshew. This team can be viable with Minshew under center, but they do need to figure out if Anthony Richardson is legit. I think we'll have a good idea on that during the 2024 season, but Indy is building something here and they don't want to waste that with a potentially bad QB.
Tennessee Titans - Give Will Levis a fair shot
Will Levis is in a pretty horrid situation in Tennessee. There is no offensive line to speak of in Tennessee and the weapons on offense are just bad. The Titans need to surround Levis with a competent OL and decent weapons to get a fair evaluation on him.
AFC East
Miami Dolphins - Extend Tua Tagovailoa
Tua Tagovailoa gets a lot of heat, but he's a really good quarterback, and the Miami Dolphins need to lock him up for the long term. The Dolphins have a ton of other talent, so it's not like their roster needs a lot of work
Buffalo Bills - Just get healthy
The Buffalo Bills have definitely endured their fair share of injuries. They need to strive to get healthy in 2024 and should perhaps adjust something with their training to ensure the don't have the same amount of injuries this next season.
New York Jets - Get several more starters along the offensive line
The New York Jets need several new starters along the offensive line. QB Aaron Rodgers is 40 years old and will likely not be as quick on his feet as he was previously. The Jets need to ensure, if nothing else happens this offseason, that the OL is as good as it can be.
New England Patriots - Get a franchise QB in the building
The New England Patriots need to find a franchise QB in 2024. They could look to the 2024 NFL Draft for that or perhaps could find their franchise QB in another way. However they do it; they need to get it done.
AFC West
Kansas City Chiefs - Do I even need to say it?
I mean my goodness, this team's WR room is just awful. Outside of Rashee Rice, the talent is below-average. This is an obvious need for the team in 2024.
Denver Broncos - Put a plan in place at QB
The Denver Broncos can go in numerous directions with their QB room in 2024. Russell Wilson returning isn't out of the question, and Jarrett Stidham starting for the team in 2024 with a rookie QB behind him also feels like a viable solution.
Los Angeles Chargers - Get the bad contracts off the team and reset a little bit
The Los Angeles Chargers need to get their bad contracts off the roster. Guys like Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Joey Bosa, and Khalil Mack should not be part of this team's future, and the Chargers can net insane cap savings by cutting and/or trading these players.
Las Vegas Raiders - Totally reset at QB
The Las Vegas Raiders need to totally reset at QB in 2024. Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O'Connell don't need to be on the team in 2024. The Raiders would be wise to start fresh with a veteran bridge and a rookie draft pick.
NFC North
Detroit Lions - Just keep it up!
The Detroit Lions just need to keep this operation up. Whatever Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes are doing needs to keep happening in 2024. The Lions are on an upward trajectory.
Minnesota Vikings - Put a plan in place at QB
I think Kirk Cousins is a fine QB, but at some point, the Vikings need to move on from Cousins at some point. He is a free agent in 2024, and I'm sure the Vikings would love to have him back, but he'll be entering his age-36 season in 2024.
Green Bay Packers - Get right on defense
The Green Bay Packers offense is young and encouraging, but the defense is littered with talent and continually underperforms. This is a huge problem and something that the team should strive to fix in 2024.
Chicago Bears - Put the finishing touches on the roster
The Chicago Bears are turning into a sneaky-good team, so much so that head coach Matt Eberlus is set to return as the team's HC in 2024. The defense has been very good as of late, and the offense is showing some promise. Whether they stick with Justin Fields or move on from him, this should be the offseason where the Bears push this roster over the edge.
NFC South
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Re-sign Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield might not be an elite passer, but he's been pretty solid for the Buccaneers this year and should definitely be re-signed. This will at least give the team some stability at the position.
New Orleans Saints - Just blow it up
The New Orleans Saints signing Derek Carr in free agency was a silly move. This team is again in cap hell and would be wise to just begin to blow it up in 2024.
Atlanta Falcons - Trade for Justin Fields or Kyler Murray, or sign Russell Wilson
The Atlanta Falcons desperately need stability at the QB spot this offseason, as neither Desmond Ridder nor Taylor Heinicke are it. One of Justin Fields, Kyler Murray, or Russell Wilson would be fine additions for this offense if they become available.
Carolina Panthers - Just become competent again
The Carolina Panthers are a dreadfully bad football team. There should be no talk of anything more than simply being a competent franchise in 2024. How that looks is up for debate, but this is a team that is years away from making noise.
NFC East
Philadelphia Eagles - Get two new coordinators
Honestly, the new duo of coordinators in Philly this year are not cutting it. Brian Johnson and Sean Desai have both done poor jobs, and even though the Eagles have a good record, you can tell just how much this team has underperformed.
Dallas Cowboys - Keep it up!
There's not a ton that the Dallas Cowboys can improve on. Both sides of the ball are very good and the team isn't going to have a ton of cap space. They should simply try and keep the band together as much as possible.
New York Giants - Begin the process of replacing Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones is not a good quarterback and the New York Giants made a huge mistake by paying him. The franchise needs to begin the process of moving on from him as soon as this offseason.
Washington Commanders - Get Ron Rivera out of the building and draft a QB
The Washington Commanders won't be a serious franchise until they fire Ron Rivera and draft a legitimate QB in 2024. This is the only path forward for this inept franchise.
NFC West
San Francisco 49ers - Don't change a thing, honestly
Why change what has worked thus far? The team has finally found a long-term answer at QB and are likely going to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. They should only try to get better.
Seattle Seahawks - Pull the plug on the Geno Smith nonsense
Geno Smith, really? This team has not built on anything from their breakout 2022 season, and Geno Smith has regressed as a passer. It's time to pull the plug on this experiment, and over $20 million in cap savings by trading him might be enough for them to do it. -
Los Angeles Rams - Acknowledge Matthew Stafford's age and plan accordingly
Matthew Stafford is getting old, and even though he is playing elite football this year, he's slowly approaching his late-30s and the Los Angeles Rams need to plan for life after Stafford.
Arizona Cardinals - Build around Kyler Murray
I think it would be wise for the Arizona Cardinals to build around Kyler Murray. He is a franchise quarterback and the Cardinals would regress as a franchise by trading him, which has been a debate this season as the Cardinals will have a very high first-round pick.
