There are some teams with questionable QB situations, but let's try to power rank all 32 starting passers in the NFL. Without a high end QB, no NFL team is going to win much, and there are teams who need to be more aggressive in finding a high-end QB.
At this point, there isn't a viable path for any team with a weak QB to bring forth a significant upgrade unless something major happens.
As of now, all of the offseason camps, practices, and other activities will go on until we reach the preseason and the start of the 2025 NFL Season in September. Let's power rank all 32 projected starting QBs for the coming season.
NFL Power Rankings: Ranking all 32 projected starting QBs
Unranked: Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans; Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland Browns; JJ McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings
It really doesn't make any sense to rank a quarterback who has not taken a snap in an NFL game, so we are going to leave Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and JJ McCarthy as unranked for now. I do see a viable path for Sanders to win the starting job for the Browns, and honestly, the media and Browns fans may end up being very pro-Shedeur as the Browns offseason rolls on, so the coaching staff may actually feel a bit pressure to make the move.
29. Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
Maybe one of the worst starting QBs in the history of the NFL, Anthony Richardson seriously has to have a magical offseason to even become a competent passer. The Colts might be in trouble.
28. Michael Penix Jr, Atlanta Falcons
Michael Penix Jr got some action late in the 2024 NFL Season due to Kirk Cousins being benched for poor play. We'll see if the young QB can find his footing, as he has been handed the keys to the franchise.
27. Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
Playing well after his benching in 2024, Bryce Young still has a lot to prove and isn't a franchise quarterback as of now, but that could change a few weeks into the 2025 NFL Season.
26. Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh Steelers
Right now, Mason Rudolph might be in line to be the starting QB for none other than the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025. I wonder if the team is still holding out hope that they can somehow sign Aaron Rodgers?
25. Justin Fields, New York Jets
Justin Fields is on his third team in as many seasons for a reason - he's not a franchise QB and is a high-end, fun backup at best. New York is not going to win many games with Fields under cen
24. Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
Derek Carr has something going on with his shoulder, so it's not clear if he'll start games for the New Orleans Saints, but as of now, Carr should still be in line to start for the team for perhaps one more year.
23. Russell Wilson, New York Giants
Russell Wilson might be down to his last straw in the NFL and is clearly not a long-term option for the New York Giants. The Giants also signed Jameis Winston and drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The G-Men have a crowded QB room.
22. Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders
I am a lot lower on Geno Smith than most, as for the most part, he's a fine QB at best who teams can win with.
The Las Vegas Raiders aren't going to makeup much ground in the AFC West in 2025, as they are still the worst team with the worst QB situation.
21. Drake Maye, New England Patriots
Drake Maye is going to shoot up these rankings in the 2025 NFL Season. He and the New England Patriots are going to be a lot better than expected.
20. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
Coming in at 20th in our power rankings, Jalen Hurts is simply not the high-end QB that you think he is. He benefits from the best supporting cast and offensive line in the NFL, yet he's still a below-average passer and has never hit 4,000 passing yards or 25 passing touchdowns in a season.
In a 'normal' situation where Hurts doesn't have the benefit of the Eagles having an all-time GM, he'd not amount to much.
19. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
Caleb Williams only throwing six interceptions during his rookie season is outstanding, and the Chicago Bears have added enough talent around Williams for this team to erupt in 2025.
18. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy is perfectly average quarterback and is going to sign an extension likely worth over $50 million per year - he's average and will perform based on what is around him.
17. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
I have seen more high-end passing ability from Tua Tagovailoa, but he and Brock Purdy are similar. Tagovailoa is 17th in our QB power rankings.
16. Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Sam Darnold had such a good season with the Minnesota Vikings that they let him walk out the door in free agency after a season in which he threw for over 30 touchdowns and led the team to a 14-win season. I would be careful about putting your eggs in Darnold's basket in 2025, as he is in a much worse situation.
15. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence has not really found his footing in the NFL as a high-end QB like many thought he would be coming out of Clemson, but he's now got a lethal WR duo in Brian Thomas Jr and Travis Hunter to help unlock his potential once and for all.
14. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
Kyler Murray is one of the few true dual-threat QBs in the NFL, but it always feels like we are talking about him not being quite as good as we think he can be. Maybe this is just who Murray is? He's just kind of... there.
13. CJ Stroud, Houston Texans
Regressing a bit in 2024, CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans have to stabilize things on offense if they want to get out of this rut of winning 10 games. I am still high on Stroud and the team, but we cannot ignore what happened last year.
12. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott was playing just OK before a brutal hamstring injury. Lets face it; Prescott is an elite passer and is a wizard at the line of scrimmage. He's a very good, sometimes great quarterback who the Dallas Cowboys are lucky to have.
11. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
Coming in at 11th in our QB power rankings is Bo Nix, a QB who threw for 29 touchdown passes during his rookie season and threw for all 29 touchdowns against just eight interceptions from Week 3 through the end of 2024.
10. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
No one disputes how good Justin Herbert is at putting up nice stats during the regular season, but the lack of playoff success is something to note. I do wonder what the conversation would be surrounding Herbert if he wasn't huge with a massive arm.
9. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Throwing for over 40 touchdowns and 4,500 yards in 2024, Baker Mayfield lit the league on fire and has cemented himself as one of the better QBs in the NFL at this point.
8. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
One of the more 'gunslinger' QBs in the NFL, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are truly on the cusp of greatness and are a candidate to win the NFC North in 2025.
7. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams are Super Bowl contenders heading into the 2025 NFL Season, but the veteran QB surely does not have more than a couple of high-end seasons left before Father Time steps in.
6. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Two down years in a row in terms of passing for Patrick Mahomes may or may not be a huge concern. The Kansas City Chiefs should be fine, as they've won the AFC three years in a row, but Mahomes is not invincible and the Chiefs roster still has major offensive issues.
5. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
Jared Goff threw at for at least 29 touchdown passes for the third season in a row in 2024 and enjoyed the best statistical season of his NFL career, easily cementing his status as a top-5 QB in the NFL.
4. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
Give me Jayden Daniels over every other NFC quarterback right now. He is excellent and could be a huge betting favorite to win the MVP award in 2024. The Washington Commanders won 14 total games last year and could make a Super Bowl push in 2025.
3. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen won the MVP in 2024 and really did cut down on the interceptions, as he threw 18 in the regular season back in 2023. Allen and the Buffalo Bills have a death-grip on the AFC East.
2. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
An elite, Hall of Fame-level passer from the pocket, Joe Burrow threw over 40 touchdowns in 2024 and was sitting on the couch in January thanks to a bottom-of-the-barrel Cincinnati Bengals defense.
1. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson truly should have won his third MVP in the 2024 season, but here we are. Jackson carved out a historically good season last year and is unquestionably the best quarterback in the NFL as of now.
