With the first waves of free agency over, let's dive into the latest NFL power rankings and see who the 10 best teams in the league are. Teams can absolutely improve by a lot and also get a lot worse in free agency. Some teams handle free agency in an aggressive manner if they are wanting to make a Super Bowl run.
Other teams can't be as aggressive give their cap situation. In today's NFL, there is no better advantage than having a franchise QB on his rookie deal, so those teams tend to be the most aggressive on the open market.
Right now, the main waves of free agency are over, and no free agency move at this point is going to significantly move the needle one way or another. Let's power rank the 10 best teams in the NFL following the first main wave of free agency.
NFL Power Rankings: Ranking top 10 teams after first wave of free agency
10. Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers made two notable free agency moves to sign guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs. This team is right on the cusp of being a contender, and with the possibility that a team like the Detroit Lions could regress in 2025, the Packers might have something to say about that NFC North title.
Just missing out on being a truly elite team, the Packers come in at no. 10 in our latest NFL power rankings following the first main wave of free agency, but they can end the year a lot higher as the weeks and months go on.
9. Minnesota Vikings
Losing Sam Darnold in free agency seemed to be by choice for the Minnesota Vikings, but they do seem to be in on the possibility of signing Aaron Rodgers. Them being interested in Rodgers tells me that something isn't quite right with JJ McCarthy behind the scenes.
If you ask me, McCarthy should be the unquestioned starter of this team, now that Darnold is gone. The Vikings retooled their offensive line this offseason, signing center Ryan Kelly and guard Will Fries. Those were two very solid moves, and this roster is truly in a good spot.
The Vikings could be a deadly team if JJ McCarthy ends up being a franchise QB, or even if they sign Aaron Rodgers.
8. Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams were able to get QB Matthew Stafford back for another season. They also said goodbye to Cooper Kupp but basically replaced him with Davante Adams. Poona Ford was also signed in free agency to replace the departed Bobby Brown III as well.
After being plagued by injuries in the first month and a half of the 2024 NFL Season, the Los Angeles Rams made a late-season push, won the NFC West, and appeared in the NFC Divisional Round. This team is truly ready to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025, and if they can stay healthy, they will runaway with the division and compete for a top seed in the NFC.
This team is loaded and in a great spot.
7. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos shocked the NFL world in 2024 and went 10-7 with an insanely efficient rookie QB in Bo Nix. In free agency, Denver added three notable players to fill roster holes in Evan Engram, Dre Greenlaw, and Talanoa Hufanga. All of a sudden, the already-great Broncos defense got a lot better.
That unit is pretty much shored up at all three phases. The offense could be addressed in the 2025 NFL Draft this year, and with it being a strong RB and TE class, Denver could come away with some serious young talent.
Denver has cracked the top-10 in our latest NFL power rankings and could be a 12-win team in the 2025 NFL Season.
6. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have not had a great offseason. They traded Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears and signed backup tackle Jaylon Moore in free agency to be their starting LT. Trey Smith is still without a long-term deal, and it's just overall a bit of a transition-type of offseason for KC.
They got blown out in the Super Bowl and will need to hit on some draft picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, as their cap situation again did not allow them to spend big-time in free agency. The years of always having draft picks at the bottom of each round has caught up with them a bit. They are the sixth-ranked team in our latest NFL power rankings.
5. Washington Commanders
Trading for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel are two huge moves for the Washington Commanders, and this team could definitely turn into one of the best in the NFC in 2025. Jayden Daniels was sickeningly good as a rookie in 2024. GM Adam Peters now gets to load-up on talent and field what could be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Washington might be able to take advantage of a potential Super Bowl hangover from the Philadelphia Eagles and win the NFC East in 2025.
4. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions will again field one of the top rosters in the NFL, but the biggest issue with this team is them losing Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson to head coaching jobs. Glenn went to the New York Jets and Johnson went to the rival Chicago Bears.
If they can transition past this change well, Detroit won't skip a beat. This team is truly loaded on both sides of the ball and are strongest where it matters most in the NFL. Had they not dealt with brutal defensive injuries in 2024, this team could have at least made it to the Super Bowl. Detroit is no. 4 in our latest NFL power rankings.
3. Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have to make a Super Bowl run at some point, right? The last time they won multiple games in the postseason was all the way back in the 2012 NFL Season. They fell to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round and need to figure something out.
Lamar Jackson also got snubbed of the NFL MVP in 2024, as it went to Josh Allen instead. The Ravens will still be a top team in the NFL in 2025, and come in at no. 3 in our latest power rankings after the first wave of free agency.
2. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have rebuilt their defensive line a bit this offseason and are looking to build on the great season they had in 2024. Buffalo again fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, but they again appear to be fielding a better roster than the Chiefs approaching the 2025 NFL Season.
Josh Allen won the MVP this year, his first of his career.
The Bills really aren't missing much - they could use another player or two in the secondary and perhaps another wide receiver, but overall, this team is in a great spot. Buffalo could be seen as the AFC favorites in 2025.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
It's only fair to put the Super Bowl champions as the no. 1 team in our latest NFL power rankings. The Eagles were an insane team in 2024 and were again elite in the trenches, embarrassing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Howie Roseman is a total menace at what he does and has already made some pristine deals in free agency. Do not be surprised if the Eagles don't miss a beat and are again a top team in the NFC. They seek to become a back-to-back Super Bowl champion in 2025.
