Deion Branch Heading Back to New England For Draft Pick

Clearly, things were not going to work out for Deion Branch in Seattle. He was a disappointment since day one, and the Seahawks were just waiting for the right offer before they moved him.

Monday night, that “right offer” came along in the form of a fourth-round pick from the New England Patriots.

The Patriots were looking for another wide receiver after trading Randy Moss back to the Minnesota Vikings a few days prior, and apparently think Branch can be productive for them the second time around.

But a fourth-round pick? From where I’m standing, that’s highway robbery and someone needs to report the Seahawks.

Perphaps Seattle caught New England in a good mood and they decided they’d throw them a bone after the Patriots completely fleeced Seattle in the trade that initially landed Branch on the west coast. The Patriots stole a first-round from the Seahawks for Branch back in 2006, and parlayed that pick into safety Brandon Meriweather.

Tom Brady reportedly was a driving force behind getting Branch back to the Patriots. If the Pats overpaid for Branch just to make Brady happy, they are going to regret it. Branch isn’t half the player he was in New England, and he was overhyped during his first stint with the Pats, anyway.

The trade was first reported by Adam Schefter.
