Tony Gonzalez Says Matt Ryan Is Ready to Lead Falcons to Super Bowl

The Atlanta Falcons have made no secret that they are ready to win now. The team put all of their chips in one basket during the NFL Draft and made the jump up to snag former wide receiver Julio Jones because they believed he was the missing piece to making a Super Bowl run.

With all the tools now in place, are the Falcons ready to make the jump to legit Super Bowl contenders? At least one player believes that Matt Ryan is ready to lead the team to the promise land and deliver for the players and fans.

He’s ready,” tight end Tony Gonzalez said. “He’s at that point in his career where, like most players, you really don’t come into your own as a football player in the NFL until right around Year Three, Four, Five. Usually quarterbacks, through history, they usually take three, four years to really hit that peak. Matt, he’s at Year Four, and he’s just going to keep getting better. I think the Falcons, (GM) Thomas(Dimitroff), has surrounded him with some really good players.

“He already is a really good player,” he added. “He went to the Pro Bowl last year, but I’m talking like a Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers — he’s going to be up there with those guys if things go the way I think they can.”

The Falcons worked their way to the number one seed in the NFC and a 13-3 record under Ryan’s direction, but his playoff record fell to 0-2 after the team failed to show up against the Green Bay Packers.

Atlanta is in prime position to make a run and they have all of the talent you could ask for. It is now up to Ryan to make that next step as a NFL quarterback and prove his future Hall of Fame tight end right. It’s time for Matty Ice to show us he’s ready.
