Nnamdi Asomugha Sweepstakes Down to New York Jets & Dallas Cowboys

As the news changes by the hour, the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes appears to be winding down to a battle between the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, according to the NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi. Interestingly enough, the two teams will meet in their season openers in 2011.

Dallas has emerged as a legitimate contender over the past 24 hours, while the San Francisco 49ers appear to have dropped out of the chase for Nnamdi. There is no exact word why San Fran will no longer pursue Nnamdi, but they have informed people around the league that they are no longer in the race.

If Nnamdi goes to New York, he will give the Jets the NFL’s top two cornerbacks. If he chooses Dallas, it would give the Cowboys the top-flight corner they desperately need and likely signal the end of Terrance Newman’s time in Big D. Players can visit teams later today and if Asomugha makes a visit to Valley Ranch to meet Jerry Jones, Dallas could emerge as the front-runners.

Fasten your seat belts, folks. This one is getting interesting. Which of the Ryan brothers will get the player they covet?
