NFL Team In Los Angeles Would Likely Mean Expansion To 34 Teams

During an appearance on Costas Live on NBC Sports Network yesterday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell discussed the possibility of a team in Los Angeles. There has always been talks about the likes of the Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams or Jacksonville Jaguars moving to Los Angeles, but that doesn’t appear to be what Goodell has in mind.

In fact, Goodell wouldn’t like to move any of the current teams to LA. If the opportunity presents itself with a suitable stadium, the NFL would likely expand to 34 teams. “We probably don’t want to go to 33,” Goodell said.

There is still no timetable for a NFL return to Los Angeles, but there have definitely been talks getting closer to having a new stadium. If LA hosted the NFL’s 33rd team, who would get the 34th? Well, that would likely be Los Angeles, too. There has been talks that the new stadium could host two NFL teams — so we will have to wait and see.

It seems that the NFL’s return to LA is about as likely as Peyton Manning leaving the Colts this offseason, so it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. As long as one of the two new teams is not in London, it is a good idea. How would you feel about the NFL expanding to 34 teams?
