Drafted – 110th overall (4th Round) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New York Giants

Brandon Jacobs started out playing college football at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas. He then went on to Auburn, but found himself behind eventual first round picks Carnell Williams and Ronnie Borwn, so he transferred to Southern Illinois. As a result, he was a fourth round draft pick in the 2005 draft.

Jacobs started his NFL career as a goal-line back, running in 7 touchdowns for 99 yards in his rookie year and followed this up with 9 touchdowns in 2006 at 4.4 yards per carry. In 2007 he became the starting running back for the Giants after Tiki Barber retired but was held back by injury. Despite this, Jacobs still managed his first 1000 yard season. He went on to finish strongly in the NFL playoffs and helped the Giants to their Superbowl XLII victory over the New England Patriots.

Jacobs injury hassles continued as he required wrist surgery prior to the 2008 season and he also had knee problems during the season that forced him to miss a couple of games. Even with this, Jacobs paired with Derrick Ward as the duo became only the fifth pair of teammates in NFL history to each rush for 1000 yards in a season.

Since then Jacobs has largely played second fiddle, first to Ward and then to Ahmad Bradshaw. Despite signing a four year $25 million contract in 2009 he has played mostly as a number two running back for short yardage and goal-line situations. Going into Superbowl XLVI, Jacobs future is uncertain as it appears it may be his last game as a member of the New York Giants.
