Vernon Davis: 49ers Should Be Super Bowl Favorites

As we get closer to the start of training camps, players are starting to open up to the media and be more candid about their thoughts on the upcoming season. That was proven true when San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was speaking with  Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News and made it clear that he believes the 49ers will make the step to the next level.

I strongly believe we should be the Super Bowl favorites,” Davis said. “But I can’t talk about it because it’s all about work. It starts here at practice. I don’t want to talk about it and brag and say this and that, because it’s not about that. It’s about working first. And in the end, you will see where you’ll be.”

According to Davis, that is a very popular belief in the 49ers locker room.

“A lot of guys are confident,” Davis said. “We know what we have here. We just come out to work, that’s all you see. Guys working and guys who love the game. I love being out here, man. This team is ready. We smelled it, so we know what it’s like. There’s nothing like it. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life.”

It wasn’t exactly a Super Bowl guarantee, but it does show the attitude and confidence of the 49ers entering the upcoming season. They have ever right to feel that way and should be considered one of the favorites to represent the NFC in the big game.
