NFL Supplemental Draft Takes Place Today

The 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft will be taking place today, with a 1:00 pm ET start time. This year, the supplemental draft features a handful of prospects, but only three of those players are expected to receive real interest from the NFL teams. The three prospects who could be drafted are former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon, Carson-Newman linebacker Larry Lumpkin and TCU running back Ed Wesley.

Gordon is the most hyped prospect of the bunch and has received some second-round buzz. Realistically, Gordon will go in the third or fourth-round. For Lumpkin and Wesley, it would be a late-round pick a team would commit to land their services.

When all is said and done, I expect two of the players to be drafted — Gordon and Lumpkin. Wesley has too many ball security issues and fails to commit to his running lanes. That should scare off teams.

As for potential landing spots for Gordon and Lumpkin? There are multiple suitors. The favorites to land Gordon are the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins. Most likely teams to commit to Lumpkin? The Baltimore Ravens, St. Louis Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers.

We will have to wait until 1 pm ET to see if any players are selected and where they will suit up next season, but here are my final predictions sure to go wrong:

  • Josh Gordon: Dallas Cowboys, 3rd round
  • Larry Lumpkin: St. Louis Rams, 7th round
