NFL Schedule Preview: Green Bay Packers

It’s 46 days until the new NFL season begins but for a football mad guy like me that’s just too long so I’ve taken it upon myself to go over each NFL schedule and try and predict for all of you what may happen once the season rolls around.

Today’s schedule is that of the talented Green Bay Packers who went 15-1 in 2011. Here’s how I think their season will go:

  • Week 1 vs San Francisco 49ers – Loss
  • Week 2 vs Chicago Bears – Win
  • Week 3 at Seattle Seahawks – Win
  • Week 4 vs New Orleans Saints – Win
  • Week 5 at Indianapolis Colts – Win
  • Week 6 at Houston Texans – Loss
  • Week 7 at St Louis Rams – Win
  • Week 8 vs Jacksonville Jaguars – Win
  • Week 9 vs Arizona Cardinals – Win
  • Week 10 BYE
  • Week 11 at Detroit Lions – Win
  • Week 12 at New York Giants – Win
  • Week 13 vs Minnesota Vikings – Win
  • Week 14 vs Detroit Lions – Win
  • Week 15 at Chicago Bears – Loss
  • Week 16 vs Tennessee Titans – Win
  • Week 17 at Minnesota Vikings – Win

Overall Record for the Green Bay Packers in 2012: 13-3

There are two highlights to this schedule that will mold the season for Green Bay – a rather tough start and a very challenging stretch just after their late week 10 bye. With their first two games being against the 49ers and Bears, the Packers are going to be tested early. They’ll find themselves tested late too as their schedule after the bye is brutal – the Bears again followed by the Giants, Vikings and Lions twice. Not easy.

Despite the tough spots this team will find themselves in, there are some rather easy stretches also. The majority of the matchups against the AFC South and the NFC West provide some relief from the harsher games. The other help to the team comes in their schedule – after the week 10 bye their only sojourn outside of the great white north is to New York in week 12. This lack of travel should help them towards the end as they’re likely to be in a playoff battle with the rest of the division.

Tomorrow we will finish up the NFC North with a double header as we close out with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
