Colt McCoy Wants To Stay In Cleveland

You can say a lot of things about Colt McCoy but he ain’t no Lebron James.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the third year Browns quarterback is sincerely hoping he is not traded or released from the team.

"“You hear all of the rumors. I keep a real tight mind-set that my job is quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. And I’m going to go out here and compete and give my best to this city and this organization, because this is where I was drafted, and I don’t want to be anywhere else.”“I come out to practice every day, and I’m still competing. I’m still working toward being the best player that I can be. I know I can play, and until somebody tells me different, I’m a Cleveland Brown, and I’m going to give everything I have for this organization and for my teammates.”"

When Colt McCoy was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by Cleveland, many believed he had been chosen to be the future of the embattled franchise. The athleticism, accuracy and leadership McCoy had shown in college looked to be a perfect fit for the Browns and their west coast offense. With Brandon Weeden now on the team, that future is in question but McCoy isn’t letting that stop him.

"“I was excited day one when I came here, and I want to be here to see us turn this thing around. Will that be as a starter? I don’t know. I want to be the quarterback. But I love those guys in that locker room, and I love competing, and those are two things that drive me every day.”"

However, not everything is as it appears. It seems that Colt McCoy has been a bit nicked up and while there were reports of a pinched nerve last season, the severity of that injury was largely unknown. As McCoy states here, it turns out to be a little more serious than most thought as he describes what top orthopaedic surgeon Dr James Andrews told him about the injury.

"“He told me, ‘You can play, but this could be a two- to three-year ultimate recovery where you feel completely 100 percent’ and I think I’ve almost reached that point where the ball is coming out sharp. I’m pretty accurate. I’m putting the ball where I want to put it. My teammates have been saying I’m on point.“It’s a combination of nearing the point where Dr. Andrews said I’d feel really good, and I’m seeing things quicker.”"

This kid’s a fighter and he may still be the future of Cleveland’s offense. One thing is for sure though – Colt McCoy is willing to do whatever it takes to remain a Cleveland Brown.
