If you’re a reader of NFL Spin Zone, you have noticed that we like to take away time to dedicate it to the NFL players who use the platform they are given for a good cause. Today, I couldn’t pass up to opportunity to spread the word on what Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has done.

Newton posted a picture today on his official Facebook page that was very touching and deserved the attention.

You may have noticed this offseason that Cam Newton’s hair has been getting a little longer than usual and there is a good reason for that. Newton was growing his hair out for charity and to raise money for a local hospital and charity. Here is the picture and message that Newton shared with the fans:

"Some of you might have noticed my hair got a bit longer in the off season. I hadn’t cut it since the last game of last season, and that day marked a new phase in the mission to get better. The daily growth was a reminder of the need to stay steady and consistent. Now that I just got faded up and the beginning of the 2012 season is now, I’m using this opportunity to help others who may need a boost. I will be donating my hair to Wigs For Kids and also raising money for Carolinas HealthCare System Levine Children’s Hospital to help kids who are battling some serious health issues . To find out how you can join me in supporting Wig for Kids www.wigsforkids.org or the Levine Children’s Hospital http://tiny.cc/mq69jw, check out the attached links. Those who help have the chance to receive signed photos, footballs, jerseys or Panthers tickets!"

Props to Cam Newton for doing such a great thing. It’s great to see NFL players take the time out to help those who are in need. Newton has shown on the field that he is a great young leader and he has done the same off the field. Again, bravo.
