The New York Jets lost Shonn Greene to the Tennessee Titans via free agency, but have found their replacement. The Jets signed former Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Mike Goodson isn’t a big name and for the most part an unknown talent at the position. In his brieft time in the NFL he’s been buried on depth charts. At Carolina he was behind the tandem of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. As a member of the Oakland Raiders he was behind Darren MCFadden and Marcel Reece.

The one stat that makes this an interesting signing is his 4.5 yard per carry average over his career. As a Radier last season he averaged 6.3 yards per carry. That stat brings the promise of burst and the Jets are hoping they’ve found a hidden gem. That Raiders stat is glamorous but the sample size is incredibly small. The 4.4 yards he averaged in the 2010 season for Carolina is more accurate most likely, he carried the ball 103 times.

The deal is for 3 years and $6.9 million. But despite getting signed, it isn’t a guarantee he’ll get the starting job. They could still address the position in the draft.
