Former Manchester United stud soccer player David Beckham was offered a tryout as a kicker for an NFL team. An NFL Scout contacted Beckham in hopes of getting him to try out. (Mirror.co)

That would have been some good star power on special teams. Beck’s accuracy deep with the soccer ball gave some scouts the idea that he would be able to kick a football through the uprights.

Why not?

If a team is in need of a kicker, why not work him out? If he can kick the ball through the uprights, you would have a nice name to add to the roster and an athlete.

If teams keep giving kickers like David Akers a chance, then they might as well workout Beckham. I think it would be awesome to see Beckham crushing field goals in the NFL, but Beckham is a superstar and the kicker position isn’t really superstar status. It’s nothing glamorous in the NFL.

I wonder what NFL team offered the tryout?

Beckam has made a ton of money playing the sport he loves, I am not sure how an NFL franchise can support paying a kicker that has never kicked in the league the amount of dough that would be worthy for Beck. If a team moves to London, then we might be talking.
