San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis could have a new role next season. With the injury to wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the 49ers are looking for different options out wide. Vernon Davis could be lining up out at wide reciever this season.

"Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat writes that Davis practiced exclusively with the wide receivers, not the tight ends, during the team’s most recent minicamp. With Anquan Boldin in the slot, Davis could wind up lining up on the outside quite often. – NFL.com"

Anquan Boldin is the best receiver on the roster and he is best lined up in the slot. He won’t be able to stretch the field like Davis can. With Randy Moss off of the roster, the 49ers are looking for someone that can bring that element to the offense. Mario Manningham will be coming back from a knee injury and might be able to add that element on the other side.

Davis will still get action at tight end, but Greg Roman and the 49ers will be looking to move him all over the field and create mismatches. Davis should be a mismatch for most defenders, cornerback or linebacker. He will find ways to get open and make plays happen.
