Minnesota Vikings Winning With Old School Football

Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen still believes that there is still room for old school football. The league has moved to a more quarterback happy league. If you do not have a good quarterback, then you won’t survive.

The Vikings and Allen don’t have the best quarterback, but they will be contenders. Having a back like Adrian Peterson makes you instant contenders.

"“I think for the simple fact that we have a guy like Adrian Peterson,” Allen said. “You know, in this league, everybody wants to say it’s about the quarterbacks, it’s about the passing, because everybody passes, right? Well, I still believe there’s room for old-school football, where you can run the ball and you can control the clock, and especially late in the season, where you can wear teams down.” – NFL.com"

When you have AP on your team, old school football will definitely work. Run the ball ALL DAY long and let him wear teams out. The Vikings would control time of possession and would have less turnovers. Couple that with Jared Allen on defense, then the old school plan will work.

However way you find to win a game is a good way. With every team focused on the passing attack, defenses are starting to specialize in getting after the quarterback and stopping the passing game and the running game should open wide up all over again. Peterson is showing how wide open it is.
