The Denver Broncos began training camp and right away received some horrible news as starting center Dan Koppen went down with an injury that will cost him his season.

Of course, this immediately led to speculation that Peyton Manning’s friend and center from his time with the Indianapolis Colts, Jeff Saturday, would want to come out of retirement to help his friend.

Apparently not. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Saturday has lost weight and does not want to come back:

The Spin: Saturday not wanting to come back is probably a good thing at this point in his career. If he is truly down to 230 pounds it would be hard for him to put the required muscle back on at his age.

Manning is fine without Saturday. The Broncos will make the right moves to protect their massive investment and Super Bowl hopes. At this point, Saturday simply is not the answer. It would make for one heck of a story, but logically on the field it’s something that shouldn’t happen.
