The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are two teams set to potentially compete for a championship in 2013—at least that’s what the front office should be thinking after putting together two solid rosters yet again.

The Giants and Steelers will meet in Week 1 preseason action Saturday to give us a sneak peak at how things are coming along. Here’s the breakdown.

Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh

When:  August 10, 2013,  7:30 PM ET

Watch: WNBC 4 (NBC – New York), KDKA 2 (CBS – Pittsburgh)

Live Stream: NFL Game Rewind

Giants Player to Watch: Brandon Myers

One of the biggest signings for the Giants this past offseason was bringing in tight end Brandon Myers, formerly of the Oakland Raiders.

Myers had a breakout year last season on a mediocre offense. It’s hard to see where he fits with the Giants already having great targets in Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, but quarterback Eli Manning is known for loving the position. Keep a close eye on Myers.

Steelers Player to Watch: Jarvis Jones

Rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones out of Georgia may not be penciled in as the starter, but you’d better believe he is going to get a length look from the coaching staff against the Giants.

There is an outside shot Jones can win a roster spot by playing well in the preseason, particularly as a pass rusher. That journey begins now.

Matchup to Watch: Giants Defensive Line vs. Steelers Offensive Line

The Giants are known for having a seemingly never ending amount of talent along the defensive line. The problem is we’ll have to see if Justin Tuck is healthy and if Damontre Moore can step up and be a quality rotational piece.

Pittsburgh is not known for having the best offensive line in recent years, so this is a nice way to tune up the defensive line for New York. Which unit wins this battle in the early goings could act as a precursor to how the regular season unfolds.

Each and every year we hear about how both of these franchises are finally missing something or other and will struggle. Each year that turns out to be false. 2013 is no exception.

This one is a toss up. New York in a close one.
