Roddy White, Julio Jones expected to play

Atlanta Falcons star wide receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones are expected to play in today’s game against the St. Louis Rams, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This news comes as little surprise, but it’s great to hear confirmation from Schefter that we should expect to see both stars out there.

White was listed questionable on the Falcons injury report with an ankle injury, but head coach Mike Smith stated on Friday that White would indeed be active against the Rams. It’s definitely not a surprise to hear that he will play, because he did play last week. What really is interesting is figuring out what his role will be, because the Falcons didn’t use him much as a receiver last week. He was a decoy to keep the New Orleans Saints defense from throwing everything at Julio Jones, and White just seemed too hobbled to make much of an impact. We’ll see how he looks out there this week, and I’ll bet he has a bigger role in store against St. Louis.

Julio Jones’s status was a little more dicey, even though he caught seven passes last week. Jones was listed questionable with a hamstring injury, and the only reason why his status was more dicey is because Smith didn’t confirm that he would play. I would be very surprised if either Jones or White misses today’s game, and it will be interesting to see how many targets White ends up receiving.
