Travis Kelce Injury Update

Kansas City Chiefs rookie tight end Travis Kelce has yet to make his NFL debut, as he was also held inactive in the Chiefs last game against the Dallas Cowboys with a knee injury. Kelce was listed questionable on the injury report, but he wasn’t expected to play. According to Dave Skretta of the Associated Press, Kelce’s knee injury is a bone bruise, and it will be interesting to see if he is able to make his regular season debut in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about Kelce’s injury during today’s press conference, and he stated that the Cincinnati Bearcats rookie TE is day-to-day.

“We just take it day by day. He has a sore knee and a little swelling in there. We’ve tried to back down on him a little bit so he can get that out of there. We’ll see how all this goes. I don’t really have an answer for you right this minute. It’s a quick turnaround. We’re just trying to piece it all together right now.”

I’m not sure if the Chiefs are just holding Travis Kelce out of games because he’s still too raw or if his bone bruise is really bother him that much. I would guess that it’s the latter at this point, and it looks like we should expect Kelce to be listed questionable on the injury report again, given the first two sentences of Reid’s quote. Skretta tweeted that Anthony Fasano has an ankle injury, so that could push the Chiefs to play Kelce in Week 3, especially if their reasoning is that he’s too raw.
