The New England Patriots finally have some good news on the injury front, as star right tackle Sebastian Vollmer has returned to practice today, according to a tweet from the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe. Vollmer sprained his left foot in last week’s win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Howe adds that Vollmer’s foot is “taped up”. His status for Week 4 is still unknown, because we have no idea how much he is even participating.

Even so, it’s great to hear that Vollmer is practicing again, because he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday. If he wasn’t seen today, then the chances of him playing against the Atlanta Falcons this week would have been incredibly bleak. Marcus Cannon is a capable backup right tackle who was once again solid as a spot-starter for Sebastian Vollmer, and the Falcons don’t really have a good matchup at left end with Kroy Biermann out for the season. That said, though, the Falcons are a tough team overall, and Vollmer is an elite player; it would be nice to have him playing.

Vollmer’s injury history combined with the fact that he might only be limited at practice today puts his status in some doubt for Sunday’s game. He will likely end up being a game-time decision, so we should continue to keep a close eye on Vollmer’s status.
