Do The Rams Know How To Use Tavon Austin?

What are the St. Louis Rams doing with Tavon Austin? Tavon Austin is one of the most dynamic players in the game, but the Rams are not getting him the football. I am not sure if they know what to do with Austin out there.

In college, Austin touched the football in all kinds of different situations. He got the ball out of the backfield, returned kicks, caught a ton of passes and was given the ball out in space as much as possible. When Austin has the ball in his hands, he has the ability to take it to the house with his quickness.

He caught 8 catches for 66 yards in the preseason and through the first 4 games of the season, he has 20 catches for a total of 124 yards. In college, Austin averaged 11.2 yards per touch! He has an average of 6.2 yards per catch so far.

The team needs to figure out a better way to get him the football. The offense has been bland and the fans are sick and tired of the playcalling of Brian Schottenheimer. It is not all Schottenheimer’s fault though. There just doesn’t seem to be a ton of talent on the Rams offensive side of the ball. They have no running game and they don’t have many other threats in the passing game.

When he does get the football, the rest of his teammates are not getting him any help. He still could use a few blocks. He can’t beat every single person in the open field.

Austin has been a disappointment with the Rams this early season, but the team has to figure out better ways to get him the ball in space and they need to give him some help.

Not saying they’re the same player, but I watched the Saints use Sproles to dismantle the Dolphins Monday night and was thinking the whole time, “man, if only the Rams had a guy who could run the ball and catch screens and line up in the slot…”

oh my goodness… right!!! he is rotting away in the Rams offense right now.

        You are so right Ernie.
        The OC (BS)needs to
be FIRED ! In fact the
        DC (TW) needs to go
        also. Tavon (& others)
        are misused.

this is so confusing but it is a matter of a bunch of little things not just one big thing … tavon has to realize that he is no longer a 1/10 of a second faster then the defenders… maybe half that the defenders are also better at getting the correct angle to get to him, that, said the offense needs more rub plays and double stack type plays that allow him to get a bit more open. I said b4 the season the rams needed to pass to open the run game I stick by that but we have to plow a bit I believe zac stacy gets his chance this weekend as Richardson has indicated he was told he wont be starting this week. I am worried about Walton and shotty both but willing to give them more time but especially the offense has to open a can of whoop ass on Jacksonville. get some positive mojo going.
