Jets Claim Former Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld

The New England Patriots released TE Zach Sudfeld on Thursday. He was one of the players that had all kinds of preseason hype, but when the cameras turned on for real play, his time kept diminishing more and more. Plus, the arrival of Rob Gronkowski looks like it could be right around the corner and it would take even more time away from the kid.

Sudfeld has been claimed off of waivers by the rival New York Jets. Sudfeld will now be catching passes from Jets QB Geno Smith… or maybe he won’t be catching any passes. In the 3 games that he has played in this season, he did not record one offensive stat. He wasn’t even a factor on special teams for the Patriots.

The Jets will take a chance on the kid and see if they can make any of that potential shine. He should get more opportunies to play with the Jets and sometimes players only need that opportunity. The Jets play in Atlanta on Monday Night Football and Sudfeld probably won’t have too much experience in the playbook, but he could find his way out there onto the field.
