San Francisco 49ers top-notch 3-4 DE Ray McDonald went down with an arm injury after sacking Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub in the 49ers convincing victory. McDonald suffered the injury in the third quarter, and it always sucks watching a player get injured after making a good play like that. CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that Ray McDonald will undergo an MRI on his right biceps today, and the 49ers will be hoping that the injury is not serious.

McDonald is one of the stars on the San Francisco 49ers defense, and fans outside of the west coast should not underestimate the impact McDonald has on the 49ers as the man causing problems opposite of noted star Justin Smith. He has a nice 20 tackles with 1.5 sacks this season, but McDonald’s disruptive play goes beyond the numbers. He brings consistent pressure on the quarterback, and you can tell that he is a constant thorn in the side of any offensive lines.

Losing him would be significant for the Niners, and the injury was bad enough that McDonald needed to have it examined in the locker room and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the contest. McDonald is a durable player, and there’s no reason to jump to any conclusions on his status. We don’t know much about the injury right now, so the MRI will definitely be a big update to watch for.
