Cecil Shorts, Ace Sanders Injury Updates

Jacksonville Jaguars star WR Cecil Shorts suffered a minor sprained SC joint injury very early in last week’s game against the Denver Broncos, and Shorts’s status is up in the air for this week’s contest against the San Diego Chargers. This clavicle injury is usually severe, but Shorts seems to have just a minor sprain since head coach Gus Bradley stated that he could play this week. That is extremely doubtful at this point, because this kind of an injury is extremely painful and would severely limit a wide receiver’s ability to have any sort of success catching passes.

Jaguars beat writer John Oehser tweets out that Cecil Shorts, unsurprisingly, is “in a lot of pain” right now, and it is just about impossible to envision him playing this week. If Shorts is able to trot out there and even play well, then I think he deserves some huge praise. It’s far wiser, though, for the Jaguars star to sit this one out.

Fellow wide receiver Ace Sanders wasn’t able to do much last week against the Broncos, and I wonder if he suffered a concussion earlier in the game but did not have it spotted. He played quite a bit on Sunday, but it didn’t seem like he suffered a concussion. The Florida Times-Union’s Hays Carylon tweets that Sanders is out at practice today with “concussion symptoms”, so the Jaguars have not ruled that the South Carolina rookie suffered a concussion. Losing both Shorts and Sanders for this week’s game against the Chargers will definitely hurt, but at least Mike Brown has looked solid.
