Tennessee Titans kick returner Darius Reynaud had an unfortunate mishap in yesterday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, as he fumbled a punt. There is even worse news for Reynaud, though, as it seems like the Titans were so disappointed with Reynaud that they decided to cut ties with him. The Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt reports that the Titans have released Darius Reynaud, and it will be interesting to see who they use as the new kickoff returner.

Based on the Titans official depth chart, Damian Williams should be in line to take on return duties for the Titans, as he was listed as the backup to Reynaud. That would make the most sense for the Titans, as I doubt they want to go out of their way to sign a return man. Reynaud had just 73 yards on four kickoff returns, and his muffed punt was a crushing blow.

I hate it when teams drop players in a seemingly knee-jerk move like this one, because Reynaud has only fumbled the ball just once in his career as a return man. He also had 1,240 kickoff return yards last season with three total touchdowns, and this release is something I don’t agree with despite his error on Sunday.

Then again, he did totally screw up yesterday and hasn’t had a good season thus far even if that play never happened.
