Santonio Holmes really hates the media and answering questions about his injury status coherently

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes hasn’t played since Week 4 due to a hamstring injury, and it’s become yet another instance of Holmes having a difficult time healing from an injury. He didn’t practice yesterday, and nobody seems to expect that Holmes will play this week against the Cincinnati Bengals. In fact, it is even possible that Holmes could sit out until the bye week and return in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills…but don’t put words in his mouth.

According to the New York Daily News’s Seth Walder, Holmes made it sound like he could miss the Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, “At this point I think the bye week has come at a great time. Would give me five, maybe six weeks to get healthy.”

That seems rather ambiguous, because why would he mention the bye week and potentially getting “six weeks” of rest out of the blue? A Jets reporter followed up by asking whether or not he means to say that he could miss the Week 9 game. Holmes, who is notoriously known for his dislike for the media, retorted, “My question was answered the way it was answered. I don’t how know you can get confused about the way I answered the question.”

When asked to clarify for a second time, Santonio Holmes gave the whole, “Don’t put words in my mouth,” routine. At this point in time, I have low expectations for what Holmes can do going forward, because we just don’t know when he is going to be healthy. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he sits out the Week 9 game, and I think the way he is answering questions about his injury is irksome. If he doesn’t want to say anything, then he can just say “no comment”. His statement about the “bye week” definitely seems to indicate that he could rest until Week 11, so the fact that he is so indignant about everyone’s confusion about that quote is a bit disconcerting.
