Old man Robert Mathis of the Indianapolis Colts has been named the Defensive Player of the Month for the month of October. He has been a menace for the Colts defense this year. At the outside linebacker position, he has 4 sacks and forced fumbles in 3 games.

Mathis had a couple of sacks against the Seahawks and Broncos. He also topped the 100 sack mark for his career. Against the Broncos, his sack and forced fumble on former teammate Peyton Manning led to a safety. His hit on Manning also hurt Manning’s ankle and had an effect on the way he was throwing the football later in the game.

On the season, Mathis has 11.5 sacks and has shown that players can make the transition from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 outside linebacker.

Robert’s play is a big reason why the Colts have been able to knock off some of the top teams in the league. The Colts have wins against the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos this season. There are high hopes out in Indy for the team.
