Week 10: NFL Power Rankings
What a great week for football. The NFL literally had everything this weekend. From close games, to blowouts, to overtime and upsets; their was no shortage of excitement this week. However, other than New England, the top five remained the same.
It all started on Halloween night when the Miami Dolphins were able to knock off the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime with a walk-off safety by Cameron Wake. They weren’t the only game this week to go into overtime. The Redskins were able to hold off the Chargers in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime where they went onto win in the opening drive.
There were also some blowouts this week. The New England Patriots shocked the league with their 55 point performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Eagles also dominated the Oakland Raiders as quarterback Nick Foles threw for seven touchdown passes.
Here are my Power Rankings for week 10. Feel free to leave your comments and opinions below. Also, make sure you check back every Tuesday morning as I will continue to post my Power Rankings throughout the season.
Number 1: Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) – Last Week 1
What a defensive performance from the Kansas City Chiefs. I think it is clear that they have the best defense in the league, holding each opponent to under 17 points. The only negative to take away from Sunday was the lack of offensive production, however, they have a week off to get things back together before they have to take on the Broncos.
Number 2: Denver Broncos (7-1) – Last Week 2
The Broncos offense scored a shocking zero points on Sunday. Oh what, they didn’t play. They get the Chargers this week before taking on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in a week 11 match-up.
Number 3: Seattle Seahawks (8-1) – Last Week 3
In the NFL a win is a win. The Seahawks were unlike themselves this past Sunday at home, going into overtime against the winless Buccaneers after coming back from 21 points. Wilson was as good as always as the Seahawks win streak is now at 4.
Number 4: Indianapolis Colts (6-2) -Last Week 4
It took a little bit for the offense to get going against Houston, but at the end of the day Andrew Luck was able to overcome an 18 point deficit. T.Y. Hilton emerged as the Colts best receiver, with a three touchdown performance. The pass defense was a bit shaky, but they were still able to get the job done late in the game.
Number 5: New England Patriots (7-2) – Last Week 7
Well, the Patriots looked like the Patriots of old on Sunday, scoring 55 points. The entire offense was in sync as it had three 100 yard receivers and a 100 yard rusher. Even with the loss of pretty much their entire offense coming into this season the Patriots are sitting at 7-2.. Amazing.
Number 6: San Francisco 49’ers (6-2) – Last Week 6
The 49’ers had a bye this week. It seems to have come at a great time as it will give them a little extra time to prepare for Cam Newton and the red hot Carolina Panthers. Should be a great game.
Number 7: New Orleans Saints (6-2) – Last Week 5
The Saints had an overall bad game. The offense looked confused the entire game and the defense was unable to stop Chris Ivory and the rest of the Jet offense. The Saints better watch themselves. Carolina has been on a roll the past few weeks.
Number 8: Cincinnati Bengals (6-3) – Last Week 8
Bad week for the Cincinnati Bengals. First, they lost to a team who had a four game losing streak, they lost Geno Atkins for the rest of the season and Giovanni Bernard suffered an injury. The only good news coming out of this weekend is the fact that the entire division didn’t play well, so they did not have too big of a setback.
Number 9: Detroit Lions (5-3) – Last Week 10
The Lions had a nice break this week. However, it’s back to football this week as they will take on the Chicago Bears. The Lions have been playing some pretty good football this year and with a very favorable schedule, don’t be surprised to see this team make a playoff push to finish off the season.
Number 10: Green Bay Packers (5-3) – Last Week 9
The injury of Aaron Rodgers was huge in the first quarter was huge. Seneca Wallace has no experience on this team and tonight was the first time the coaches actually called plays in a game situation as he did not play in the preseason. Green Bay fans are hoping Rodgers injury is not serious, however, there is speculation that he potentially broke his collar bone. Not a good sign for the Packers.
Number 11: Carolina Panthers (5-3) – Last Week 13
This is exciting. I am completely on the Panthers bandwagon. They have been playing exceptional football the past few weeks and Cam Newton has been an absolute monster. This team has all the tools to be successful. They have a great defense, a really good running game and a multi-dimensional quarterback who has been protecting the ball. I like them over New Orleans to take the NFC South at this point.
Number 12: Dallas Cowboys (5-4) – Last Week 12
Another late scare for Dallas, however, they were able to be the victors this past weekend. Tony Romo has really been impressive this season. He is protecting the football with just six interceptions. He has this team in first place halfway through the season. I think they’ll take the division and have some success in the postseason. Romo is really a lot better than people give him credit for.
Number 13: Tennessee Titans (4-4) – Last Week 15
Boy oh boy have the Titans missed Chris Johnson. With 23 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns, CJ2K was in old form. If he can continue to produce like that and if Locker can stay healthy and protect the ball this team will be serious contenders for the remaining Wild Card spot. They have the defense to get them there.
Number 14: New York Jets (5-4) – Last Week 18
This team amazes me. One week they will get blown out by the Bengals and then the next they defeat the New Orleans Saints. The Jets have been the model for inconsistency this season. Even with that being said they are still playing much better than anyone had expected them to play.
Number 15: Chicago Bears (5-3) – Last Week 17
The Chicago Bears played a lot better than many people thought they would. Yes, the loss of Aaron Rodgers obviously has a huge impact on how they would play. But, they got really good play out of backup quarterback Josh McCown. Matt Forte also chipped in to help out the cause by rushing for over 100 yards.
Number 16: San Diego Chargers (4-4) – Last Week 11
Heartbreaking loss for the Chargers. Down by three with the ball on the one yard line and with three chances to score, they were unable to put the ball in the end zone. They would go onto lose in overtime. Things aren’t going to get any better next week as they will host the Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
