Kansas City Chiefs top wideout Dwayne Bowe was arrested for speeding an possession of marijuana yesterday, but the Chiefs cannot discipline him due to CBA rules. Bowe will be disciplined once the law takes its course, but it will be the league delivering the hammer to the 29-year-old. He was never expected to miss this week’s huge game against the Denver Broncos, and ESPN’s Ed Werder confirms that Bowe will indeed be out there for the Chiefs.
Even though he hasn’t been productive this season, the Chiefs definitely need him to be out there anyway for their tilt against the Broncos. The undefeated Chiefs and high-flying Broncos have made the AFC West must-watch football, and both teams can stake legitimate claims to being the best in the NFL. Bowe and the Chiefs are going up against a Broncos defense that has plenty of depth at corner, so it is great on-the-field news to hear that Bowe won’t miss this game. If he were out, then the Chiefs passing attack would definitely be in dire straits.
It will be interesting to see when Bowe is disciplined, but it’s unlikely that he’ll receive a major penalty. Bowe hasn’t violated the substance-abuse policy (only the PED policy), so he isn’t considered a repeat offender by the league. With an average of just 41 yards per game, though, it hasn’t been easy sailing for Dwayne Bowe on-the-field either.
