Maurice Jones-Drew, Cecil Shorts Injury Updates

Jacksonville Jaguars star players Maurice Jones-Drew and Cecil Shorts are both uncertain for this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, and there’s a distinct chance that the Jaguars will be without their best two players on offense. Jones-Drew suffered a hamstring injury in last week’s rivalry win over the Houston Texans, and he was incredibly optimistic about his status following the injury, saying that he would “definitely” play against the Bills in Week 15. But as the week has progressed, it’s become increasingly clear that MJD isn’t as healthy as he thought he was, and even his determination to play (he’s in a contract year) isn’t going to be enough. Hamstring issues are always tough, and this is especially true for veteran RBs like MJD.

The Jaguars are officially listing Jones-Drew as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Bills, and I actually thought that they would list him questionable and make him a game-time decision. Fantasy owners absolutely have to pick up Jordan Todman, because the doubtful designation means that MJD will most likely be out. In fact, I would be very surprised if Todman doesn’t get the start, since Jones-Drew hasn’t practiced at all this week.

While Jones-Drew could still come down to  a game-time decision, wide receiver Cecil Shorts will be a game-time decision indeed and is listed questionable, so he has a better chance at playing. Shorts is one of the best receivers in the game, and he’s also one of the toughest receivers in the game. He’s already played through an SC sprain this year, and he’s playing through a groin injury that will require surgery at the end of the season. Consider Shorts a toss-up for this week’s game, and his absence would only help fantasy owners who are either bullish on Todman’s chances or have to start him due to issues at RB.
