Darren Sproles just has been released by the New Orleans Saints:

Sproles is one of the favorites around the league. He is one of the small running backs in the league that finds a way to be productive despite his size. Drew Brees loves using him as a target out of the backfield and Sproles has that ability to break loose in the open field. He has been a big weapon for the Saints for some time.

Sproles is a casualty of the cap. He is 30 years old and running backs start to lose their mojo once they hit that mark. Sproles doesn’t take the same amount of beating as an every down back, but that smaller stature has taken some beating during the last 8 years of his career. He still is a threat out of the backfield and can break off big returns on special teams. Someone will want to bring him onto their roster. I would expect the New York Jets to get involved quickly.
