Washington Redskins not interested in Josh Morgan

Since we last checked, there were some teams interested in Washington Redskins free agent wide receiver Josh Morgan, and two of those teams were the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers are desperate for any sort of wide receiver help and the 49ers used to have Morgan, so they could both still be interested in him (the Panthers would make more sense as a landing spot). Morgan fell out of favor with former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, and there’s no doubt that Morgan harbors plenty of hard feelings toward his former coach.

Per Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington, Morgan stated that there are a “couple” of teams with interest in him, but he adds that the Redskins are not among the teams interested in him. It doesn’t sound like the new staff is a fan of keeping him around either, and that isn’t a surprise. Morgan isn’t anything more than a WR4 who can block and move the chains as a steady veteran presence, and the Redskins are clearly setting their sights high at the position. I mean, why else would they be taking a close look at DeSean Jackson, who would be a massive upgrade as a WR2 next to Pierre Garcon?

It will be interesting to see where Morgan signs, and I’m willing to bet that there’s at least one other team aside from the Panthers and 49ers interested in the 28-year-old. He has had some past production and is a good locker room presence, so he warrants strong consideration for teams lacking veteran depth at WR.
