The Detroit Lions are looking to add a quarterback in the draft as a backup to Matthew Stafford. The team signed Dan Orlovsky as a backup last week, but they still are looking for someone else to add at the position.

One of the players that they have interest in is LSU QB Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger will be throwing during the LSU Pro Day on Wednesday and the Lions will be in attendance according to Detroit News. Mettenberger is one of the top talents in the draft, but his draft stock slipped with his ACL injury that he suffered during the season.

Mettenberger will need to show that he is recovered from the injury during his Pro Day and he will also have to clear up some character issues as well. Mettenberger pleaded guilty to sexual battery as a freshman before he transferred to LSU. There will be some questions that come up about that.

Mettenberger has shown a strong-arm and could be a nice addition to the Lions roster. Would the Lions want to use a 2nd round draft pick on a backup quarterback though? Mettenberger could give Stafford a little push at the position. If the interceptions continue to fly, people might be calling for Mettenberger’s name.
