Rob Ninkovich calls Darrelle Revis best CB in the NFL

The New England Patriots are absolutely stacked at the cornerback position, as they moved quickly to replace former No. 1 corner Aqib Talib, who signed a lucrative deal with the “rival” Denver Broncos. Darrelle Revis is actually a significant upgrade over Talib, which is a testament to just how great Revis is. Bill Belichick always strives to take away the opposition’s most talented pass-catcher, but it often leaves the Patriots vulnerable against other options by focusing their attention so much on the top receiver. With Revis shutting down just about anyone one-on-one, the Patriots have more freedom to use creative blitzes, move other players around, and help Devin McCourty turn his speed and instincts into more interceptions.

Veteran defensive end Rob Ninkovich was available for an interview today at Foxboro, and he unsurprisingly sounds pumped to have Revis around. He called Revis, per a tweet from WEEI’s Christopher Price, the NFL’s best cornerback, “We have the best corner in the league coming in.”

I’m sure Richard Sherman and plenty of Seattle Seahawks fans aren’t happy with this statement from Ninko, but the Patriots locker room leader wouldn’t say anything different. I also agree with him, even if Sherman does a better job of baiting quarterbacks. Revis is an even better lockdown corner than Sherman, as he gets burned even less and bites on even less cuts and moves. Sherman is amazing and can be called the best CB in the league, but I think Revis is slightly better due to his super-human ability to lock down WRs and play in a variety of set-ups against top wideouts. He’s so good that it really isn’t fair for WRs.
