FanSided NFL Mock Draft: Atlanta Falcons Select Jake Matthews

We are running through our FanSided NFL Mock draft at the moment. This is where the editors around the network make the selections for their teams. We will be publishing the entire mock when it is complete on this site and will post each selection individually as they come in as well.

Here are the selections that have already been made by our FanSided editors:

1. Houston Texans Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
2. St. Louis Rams (from Washington Redskins) Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo
3. Jacksonville Jaguars Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
4. Cleveland Browns Derek Carr, QB Fresno State
5. Oakland Raiders Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

With the 2nd pick in the NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select…

Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

Selection made by Erik Lambert, Editor of NFL Mocks

Here is the analysis on the selection:

Many people believe Greg Robinson is the more talented offensive tackle in this draft, and there is merit to that.

However, Jake Matthews is not only talented, he’s also polished. The Atlanta Falcons are a throwing team with Matt Ryan and need somebody to stand on his blind side and handle top pass rushers with consistency every game.

Matthews has excellent technique, power and anchor that will allow him to do just that. Also, in the midst of that reasoning, it overshadows how good of a run blocker he is too. This pick is exactly what the Falcons need for their quarterback.
