Cleveland Browns rookie QB Johnny Manziel will not be handed anything in camp and that is the way that head coach Mike Pettine is going to handle the situation. Brian Hoyer is the number 1 quarterback to start things out and Tyler Thigpen is number 2 on the depth chart. Johnny Manziel will have to climb out of the 3rd spot on the depth chart in order to claim a starting role on the roster.
"“It’s just tough for him now in his infant stages where he’s just trying to learn the (play) book,” said coach Mike Pettine. “It’s hard to even take reps. He’s just coming off a rookie install and basically a week of meetings. It’s tough for guys really to shine early when they have a lot on their plate.”"
Manziel is still learning the playbook and just got into camp. The other quarterbacks have a leg up on the competition because of their experience in the league and their knowledge of the playbook. Manziel has plenty of time to impress and move up the depth chart though. He may be 3rd on the depth chart at this time, but he will be moving up in no time. He should at least be number 2 when the preseason kicks off and he will be looking to take that starting job out of training camp.
