Peyton Manning proud of backup QBs

The Denver Broncos have two talented young quarterbacks behind Peyton Manning, and some people believe that one of them- most point to Brock Osweiler- will prove to be a strong successor to Manning once the legend retires. I’m sure they’ve both learned plenty under the tutelage of a player known as the greatest student in the history of the game, and they were both fantastic in a 34-0 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers in the preseason. Beating the Niners in a game that matters will be much more difficult, but it was still impressive to see all three Broncos QBs combine for a 30-38-270-3-0 line.

  • According to the Broncos official Twitter account, Manning is “proud” of the performances of backup QBs Osweiler and Zac Dysert, “Thought we made some improvements from last week …. I’m proud of Brock and Zac.”

The first part of the quote is a bit of a, “You think?” moment, because beating someone by 34 points generally constitutes an improvement. Osweiler was 10-13 with 105 yards, and all three QBs had one TD with no picks. Dysert averaged just 5.7 yards per attempt in comparison to Osweiler’s 8.1, but his 8-11 throwing line was still impressive. Osweiler was statistically the team’s most proficient quarterback on the night, and the displays provided by the trio helped the Thomases and Cody Latimer make some plays out there. Hopefully Osweiler and Dysert can keep playing well, because it will give Broncos fans plenty of hope for the future.
