The Minnesota Vikings have named Matt Cassel their starting quarterback for the 2014 season per Jay Glazer. He won the job over Teddy Bridgewater and will run the offense with Adrian Peterson and the young threats at receiver. There are a lot of dynamic pieces to the Vikings offense, but the quarterback position is the biggest question mark.

Cassel will get the first shot to run the offense, but if he were to struggle then the fans will be looking to see their young quarterback rise off of the bench. Norv Turner likes to go with veteran players on offense and it looks like he is sticking with the veteran quarterback to run the squad.

I can’t see Cassel starting for the Vikings that long. He needs to control the offense and play that Alex Smith role on the team, but I am not sure if he can do that for the Vikings. Norv Turner will ask him to go down the field a lot and it will put him in some tough spots. He will need protection from his offensive line and he will need to hit his receivers down the field. Maybe the offense is perfect for Cassel, but I think he will struggle. Only time will tell.
