Kansas City Chiefs superstar running back Jamaal Charles is the hope of the offense, and it was simply inexcusable for Andy Reid to hand him just seven carries last week in a very disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans. Reid unsurprisingly apologized and looked ready to give Charles his customary, heavy workload as the team’s all-purpose bellcow, but it looks like the injury bug might have other plans for Charles today.

According to FOX Sports’s Ross Jones, the Chiefs announced that Charles is questionable to return with an ankle injury, and losing him for the rest of the game could be a death-knell for the Chiefs against the high-powered Denver Broncos offense. With a secondary that isn’t playing up to its potential and an offensive line that has done nothing well thus far (and is now missing Jeff Allen), the Chiefs 2014 season is shaping up to be a disappointing one early on. The Broncos are arguably the best team in the NFL (I have the Seattle Seahawks at the top by a noticeable margin), and Charles represents their best chance at beating them.
Details are unsurprisingly scant at the moment, but we can only hope that he’s OK. Charles dealt with a bruised foot during the preseason, though it was a very minor ailment.
