Knowshon Moreno expected to miss at least four weeks

Miami Dolphins veteran running back Knowshon Moreno left today’s disappointing 29-10 loss to the rival Buffalo Bills after being injured on the first carry of the game by linebacker Nigel Bradham, and the injury has been diagnosed as a dislocated elbow. A multi-week injury, there’s a chance Moreno could be out for a considerable amount of time, though we’ll have to wait for further testing in order to get an idea of what sort of timetable the former Denver Broncos No. 1 back is looking at.

  • Per a league source close to Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper, Moreno is expected to miss at least four weeks with the injury, and four weeks definitely sounds like the low end of the spectrum. But that means Moreno could feasibly escape with missing just three games, since the Dolphins have a Week 5 bye. If he does only miss four weeks, then Moreno could make it back in time to face the Chicago Bears in Week 7.

Moreno ran for over 100 yards in an exceptional Week 1 performance over the New England Patriots, while counterpart Lamar Miller was solid in both of his games. Without Moreno, the Dolphins no longer have a great running back duo, but they still have a talented local product in Miller, who is more than capable of shouldering the load. The biggest issues will be consistent protection and better defense, as allowing 29 points to the Bills is hardly ideal.

Miller also suffered an ankle injury today, but Alper reports that it isn’t a significant issue.
