Daniel Thomas re-joins Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins need some short-term help at the running back position, as Week 1’s 100-yard rusher Knowshon Moreno went down with a dislocated elbow early on yesterday. Lamar Miller is more than capable of shouldering the load in Moreno’s absence, though the Dolphins will miss having a very nice 1-2 punch in the backfield for the time being. But while Miller can be the No. 1 back for the Dolphins, they still needed to add some quality depth at the position in the interim.

  • Agent Tony Fleming told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that Daniel Thomas has signed with the Dolphins today, giving them a familiar face back in the fold as Miller’s No. 2. Thomas was a wholly ineffective starter for the Dolphins and is ideally a No. 3 back, but he’s a great replacement as an RB2. Not only is he familiar with the ‘Fins, but he’s better than just about all of the other options.

Thomas’s career yards per carry averages are pretty underwhelming, so he shouldn’t get many carries behind Miller, who should clearly be the workhorse back until Moreno comes back. If the offensive line can play like they did in Week 1, then the Dolphins offense shouldn’t have too much trouble, as Miller is talented and the passing game has plenty of upside.
