Jamaal Charles Injury Update: Clean MRI, high-ankle sprain

Kansas City Chiefs superstar running back Jamaal Charles was criminally underused in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Titans, and Andy Reid sought to rectify his error. In a cruelly ironic twist of fate, Charles was only able to run the ball twice for four yards in yesterday’s 24-17 loss to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, as the elite RB left the game early with a sprained ankle.

  • The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the initial diagnosis of Charles’s injury as a sprained ankle is indeed correct, as the back’s X-Rays came out negative. However, he passes along that Reid stated his best offensive player is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, so Charles will likely be on the shelf for a few weeks with what is a nasty, though not necessarily overly serious, injury.

Knile Davis is a great No. 2 back, and he did a great job of filling in for Charles yesterday. Davis’s explosive ability and pass-catching play make him a great fantasy football option, as well as a worthy interim feature back in the Chiefs offense. Hopefully Charles only misses a minimal amount of time, though I would tentatively expect him to miss about four weeks. For now, it will be the Davis  show in K.C.
