Wes Welker listed probable against Seattle Seahawks

The Denver Broncos will be getting slot receiver Wes Welker back this week, as he was reinstated after the new drug agreement between the NFL and NFLPA, which was finalized on Wednesday. Welker will slot in against the talented Seahawks secondary, which is still deep even after losing underrated slot corner Jeremy Lane for the season. Julius Thomas and Demaryius Thomas look like the most dangerous threats for the ‘Hawks defense to contend with when assessing all of the on-field matchups, but it was Welker who looked the best in the Super Bowl blowout between both teams.

  • According to the USA Today’s Lindsay Jones, the Broncos have officially listed Welker as probable on the injury report, meaning that he’s a lock to play and is fully recovered from the concussion he was cleared from. Although Welker’s status was never truly in doubt, it’s still good to hear that he’s receiving a positive designation on the injury report for a marquee matchup, especially since he hasn’t been with the team due to the suspension.

Welker caught 73 passes for 778 yards and ten touchdowns, and those numbers will surely go down this year, even if he weren’t suspended. Eric Decker is a better receiver than Emmanuel Sanders, but the Broncos are also deeper at the position, with Sanders also getting slot snaps at times. On Sunday, Welker will play a key role in the Broncos offense over the middle of the field, but I don’t think the Broncos will risk the oft-concussed WR on any pick routes against an imposing Seahawks back seven.
