Andy Dalton: ‘we put defenses on edge’

The Cincinnati Bengals are proving why they are one of the best teams in the AFC, as they currently boast a 3-0 record after disposing of the Tennessee Titans with unsurprising ease in a 33-7 blowout win. This comes after victories over the rival Baltimore Ravens and the talented Atlanta Falcons, whom they held down in an impressive display of defensive force.

  • We knew their offense would be great with star talents like Geno Atkins and Leon Hall littered across one of the league’s deepest defenses, so the more interesting talking point coming into the season was the new-look, run-first offense under promoted offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who is highly regarded. The Bengals running back duo of Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill has looked excellent, and locked-up quarterback Andy Dalton has been incredibly efficient under his new OC.

Dalton told the MMQB’s Peter King that he likes what the Bengals are “doing” offensively, “What I like about what we’re doing. is we put defenses on edge. They don’t know what we’re doing.”

With a vast array of trick plays, including an 18-yard touchdown reception for Dalton, nobody really knows what Jackson and the Bengals have planned next. More importantly, Dalton is completing over 65% of his passes with an average of 8.6 yards per attempt, though it will be interesting to see how he fares out against better secondaries. So far so good, though, for the Bengals passing attack despite some injuries.
